Reclaimed Wood Key Hook

For many weeks I have been teasing you on my Instagram and Facebook pages with images of a car load of wood that I got donated to me.  I finally have time to sit down and explain to you what I have been doing.

Let's start at the beginning... My friend Aryn called me and told me her neighbor was re doing all of her kitchen cabinets and wanted to get rid of the old ones.  So naturally, I jumped on this opportunity and drove to the house and was immediately in HEAVEN!  I filled up my car with the wood, and raced home to get started on my new found fortune.

After I organized and took inventory of the wood, I started the process of distressing the wood.  I know, some of you are probably screaming in your head that I am crazy to mess with some perfectly nice wood that is painted white.  But that is what makes it so much fun!!!!  I thinned the paint, sanded, beat it with a chain (literally), and added some stain to warm up the color.  Seriously, this was so much fun!  Each piece takes a few hours to complete, but I love the new look of the wood.

After the distressing process, I started to think about my images.  I started with the piece that I thought The Chagrin Falls Popcorn Shop would fit in nicely, and boy does it!  I printed this image, and placed it into the insert of the wood, and the wood frames the image beautifully!  I then added key hooks to the lower section to give the piece a job, or a sense of USABLE ART.

Let's be honest, how many times this week have you said, "HONEY, WHERE ARE MY KEYS???" I know I have said it a few times.  This is why I am making these pieces.  You can put this in your entry way by the door, your mud room or near the garage.  It will provide a beautiful display to put you keys on, so you never have to lose them again.

This piece is a one of a kind, and it is now on my website for purchase HERE.  I will be making more pieces and adding them to the website, but all good things come to those who wait.

If you are interested in a custom piece please feel free to contact me!!!  I have over 65 pieces of wood and I would love to create something just for you!

And as always please stay in touch on Instagram, and on Facebook to get the most current updates on what is going on in the studio!
